Groundswell 2010 Report

Five years ago nobody knew about Christian Surfers in El Salvador, but sharing the gospel with the surfing community was a strong desire in the heart of some people. My son, Marcelo, was one of them.
Currently, we have 4 chapters with almost 100 young surfers and non-surfers attending our weekly Bible studies. The chapters are located in San Salvador (capital city), El Tunco beach and El Zonte beach, both in La Libertad, and Barra de Santiago beach town in Ahuachapan, all of them well known surf destinations worldwide.
Two of our leaders left the country for personal reasons; however, they are taking advantage of the opportunity by sharing the CS vision with others. Christian Lama is currently living in Panama, where he leads the first CS Chapter in this country. Also, Marcelo Castellanos has just started the first CS Chapter in Argentina.
Currently CS relies on a strong Christ-centered group of leaders. The current junior champ is a CS member and some of the best-ranked surfers are part of our ministry. As a ministry we have developed strong relationships that allow us to partner with local institutions and organizations, such as churches, NGOs, government and missionary agencies as well as other ministries. We also have the respect of the communities where we have presence.
A property is being developed to become our national base and the foundations are laid. Other teams welcome to come help us build this. It will be a light in our community and a centre for operations.
Another project we have going is called Mini CS, which includes many children aged between 4 and 10 who would always hang around our meetings, so we decided to make a special group for them.
In the near future our plans include creating a CS Surf Club to partner with the Salvadoran Surfing Federation and developing a values program with their help.
