Conference Travel Scholarship FundWe recognise that in a global economy there are those with more resources than others. We also recognise that in God's economy the body of Christ is to share its resources with one another. We are committed to ensure that every nation has a representative at our International Conference in Hawaii, November 2012. To this end, we propose an individual travel sponsorship program whereby we link key leaders from Emerging World nations with others in the First World. Of course we expect that even first world countries will be doing their own fundraising for their own people, but we acknowledge that they will have greater opportunity than our Emerging World brothers and sisters. How it Works - A list of key Emerging World leaders profiles is below.
- A CS nation, a local CS group or an individual can contact Casey Cruciano and pledge their support for one of these leaders by August 31.
- Should that leader already be taken, Mal will direct you to another. Should one leader receive more money than is needed, surplus will be forwarded to one who is lacking.
- The sponsoring person/s are to maintain contact with the sponsored leader and monitor their progress and mutually encourage one another.
- The support is to come in by the end of June via the CSI website to enable the person to secure an airfare at the cheapest rate.
- USA donors can receive a tax receipt by contacting Cal Fisher and he can arrange for receiving your payment and forwarding it on.
- Money can be forwarded to the person in advance, ideally direct to the travel agent or airline company for the ticket, or reimbursed on their arrival at the Conference.
- All inquiries regarding this should be directed to Casey Cruciano, Conference Treasurer
- The final outcome is that every nation will be represented at the CSI Conference and for many, they will be welcomed by fellow members of the CS family.
Emerging World Leaders  | Dilsiri Welikala
Sri Lanka - It was through sheer passion for the Lord and surfing that Sri Lankan water sports enthusiast Dilsiri Welikala got in touch with Christian Surfers International. By attending this conference, he wishes to develop his leadership skills though which he could start CS in Sri Lanka and make a positive impact within the surfing community of Sri Lanka. Apart from surfing and kitesurfing, Dilsiri continues to marvel at the Lord’s wonderful creation travelling around the Island paradise and occasionally singing in his Church Choir! He seeks funding to attend the conference.

South Africa - Roy Harley is the CSI Regional Coordinator for Africa and is our faithful founder of CS in South Africa. Married to Sharon and with two kids, Roy is on full time faith financed support with CS - quite a challenge in that economy. It is essential for Roy to attend conference to attend pre-conference leadership meetings, report on his region and is a critical presenter for many great projects such as our new evangelistic resource 'On the Rocks' and the Internship program. Roy will not be able to attend without scholarship.

South Africa - Rehgert van Zyl has pioneered an amazing development program amongst South Africa's poorest coastal community, combining surf coaching with life skills coaching, and developing and funding it by faith. He is an amazing visionary and entrepreneur with maturity beyond his 26 years. He has a story and a model of ministry this Conference needs to hear and is transferable to many other emerging world surf communities.

Brazil - Sergio Busatto is the CSI Regional Coordinator for South America living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. With a wife and child and in full-time ministry supported in part by his church, he is a vital part of our leadership team. Sergio needs to be at this Conference to attend pre-Conference leadership meetings, to facilitate regional meetings with his South American representatives and to report on his region. He is also President of CS Brazil and represents them. He cannot attend without some sponsors.

Brazil - Marco Pelegrino is a Regional Coordinator in North-Eastern Brazil and his leadership and influence has helped to consolidate the national movement. He is a pastor at a local community and works in the ministry full-time. His presence at the Conference will provide a growth in his leadership and will add much to his vision.

Venezuela - Rene Garcia is the assistant of the national leader of CS Venezuela. He is a humble family man, married to Gabriela, with two sons Sunny, 9, and Sara, 1, and works in a customs office. He became a Christian through CS Venezuela 3 years ago. This Conference is his only opportunity to network with other national leaders and share vision, resources, struggles and strategies.

Venezuela - Luis Gutierrez is the national director of CS Venezuela. He started the surf ministry alone in 1999 and has passed through natural disasters in his home town, financial and social crisis in his country and leadership crisis in his team. He is married whit Iza and two sons, Luis Isai, 9, and Izabella, 3, and also works as a freelance sports announcer. This conference will inspire broader vision in Luis that will enable his country to expand mission to the wider Venezuela surfing community.

Argentina - Hey there, I am Hernan Folcini, and everyone calls me Nacho. 35 years old, I'm married with 2 children. I am from Argentina and I am the leader of Christian Surfers Argentina in Mar del Plata, our "capital of surf." We are an emerging mission and I would love to attend the conference to network and get to know more about the CS family, and help the ministry grow in our country. Fiji - Kris Stice is Fiji born and raised and currently serves as national leader of CS Fiji. He oversees the two local chapters and their leadership teams, networks with the Fijian Surfing Association and Viti Surf, and is deeply committed to God's grace reaching the lost and God's glory shining from the saved. He is part of the first generation of Fiji-raised surfers and is well respected within those circles. He, with his wife and nearly 5 kids live on full-time faith support as he pastors and serves a local body. Regional and international networking for encouragement and prayer is vital to the growth in Fiji and the potential establishment of neighbouring CS Vanuatu where Kris has direct ministry links.

Costa Rica - Dennis Leon is the national director of CS in Costa Rica. Together with his wife, Kyle, and two young children, he is on full-time faith support. His heart for reaching surfers goes well beyond their involvement with waves, as he and his family provide guidance in the formation of faith communities to disciple people to genuine spiritual growth. This conference will assist Dennis in further developing the vision to reach the surfing community in all of Costa Rica.

|  | Andres Rozas (El "Chato Andres")
Peru - Andres has opened his heart and his home to run the new TPC Chapter of "Alto Peru", in Chorrillos-Lima. It has not been possible for this chapter to grow without his generosity and support, even though he has been going through a very difficult time economically with his family. He is single and has been involved with CS in a big way for the last 2 years. He was baptized 4 months ago in the first beach baptism CS Peru has had. He is teaching the Bible and visiting his whole community, with more than 30 kids involved. It's really amazing what God has been doing with him and through him and his attendance at the Conference would enable his vision and mission to grow even stronger through the connections made.

Peru - Jimmy has been part of the leadership team in Peru for many years, and is trying to improve his spiritual life, his commitment to the service and looking into the possibility of opening a new chapter in San Bartolo (south of Lima). It would be so helpful for him to be a part the international crew to have his vision expanded to all that the Lord would have for Peru.

OTHER PROJECTS: Foundations Training We have written a foundational leadership training course for CS leaders covering CS fundamentals, leadership, gospel content and process, partnerships, building a team, responsible duty of care and surf culture. We want to train up trainers to deliver this material in each of our nations. $1,000 will enable a trainer to be developed with workshop, reading list, manuals and ongoing development. Donate International Conference Scholarships In November, 2012 in Hawaii our 10th International Conference will be held. We are seeking to assist emerging leaders from the third world to come. $US400 will cover a delegate's conference fees. Donate Chaplaincy We have need to help fund the ASP World Tour Chaplains (Men’s and Women’s) and are seeking partners to help offset their travel costs. If you know of an airline employee who can sign them up as a travel buddy, or if you can donate miles, or donate towards travel costs. $1,000 will get a chaplain to a key event. Donate Surfers Bibles We now have Bibles in Spanish, French, Portuguese and English. There are many events around the world we can distribute these. You can assist and $US200 will enable a box of evangelistic New Testaments to be distributed.
