Mission
Italy has adopted surfing in a unique way. Being located in the Mediterranean Sea means that surfers require a special level of commitment. So when a storm hits everyone is running for their boards, and when summer rolls around VW Transporters (vans) are migrating to more consistent and open coasts like the South West of France and the north coast of Spain.
Despite the apparent difficulty in finding surfable waves, the growth of surfing in Italy, particularly over the last 10 years, has been enormous. As an example that perhaps reflects the demand of the 90's, the number of surf shops grew from 4 to 50 and the number of published surfing magazines from 1 to 3. Now 10 years later numbers continue to grow, and until recently there hasn't been any known witness in the Italian surfing community.
Now in various parts of Italy Christians who surf are beginning to emerge and Christian Surfers International has had the privilege of meeting several of them. We wait on God for more contacts and for developing opportunities where the existing contacts live.
