Groundswell 2010 Report

The biggest event that happened this year for CS Venezuela was the Beach Kids Games. Over 50 kids attended and we presented the good news through surfing, sports and Bible lessons, and just playing games with the kids. Most of the kids had never heard the gospel before and many of their parents are surfers and were with the kids through the day and were also witnessed to.
It has been a tough year for us with much transition, but God is good. Global Surf Industries donated boards for the surf school, which teaches kids not only to surf, but also Biblical values. Most of the kids are very poor and can’t buy any boards. They’re close to the beach and always there, love surfing, but can’t. They often sell things to tourists and witness lots of drugs and other bad behaviour. In Venezuela surf school culture is very new so many people don’t want to pay, but paying customers make the lessons free for these kids. Many things are still needed to help run the school, through which Luis and the team have seen great results.
Meetings continue with the leadership team fortnightly. Plans for the future include wanting to reach all of the surfing locations in Venezuela. They are planning to have a presence at each surfing event in Venezuela with hospitality, servanthood and chaplaincy and are aiming to have their first national conference with the hope that this could ignite possibilities in new areas.
Our main goals this next year are the establishment of a national conference, putting on our annual outreach contest (which is always well-received and the best surfers in the country always ask when the next one is), and hosting a Walking on Water premiere.
