OCTOBER / NOVEMBER 2016

Greetings to all our Prayer Supporters!

"Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Please pray for these global prayer needs and thank the Lord for these items of praise!

Don Pearson
International Prayer Coordinator

INTERNATIONAL

Praise God for:

  • A number of new missions partners that have joined CS. Their prayer and financial partnership is important in allowing us to do our kingdom work.

  • Our chaplains who are doing a phenomenal job as they work within different competitive surfing arenas, serving the WSL and ISA with integrity, consistency and excellence.

Pray for:

  • God's financial provision for a number of our nations, as well as the CSI international operations. Pray that God will give our leaders wisdom and favour to unlock His provision in this area.

  • The health and safety of the CS national directors in each nation, the CSI Regional Coordinators (Europe, Australia/Asia, Africa, Pacific, North & South America), the CSI Chaplains and Chaplaincy Coordinators, and the CSI full-time staff members - in particular, the Harley family.

NORTH AMERICA

Praise God for:

  • The team updating the Spanish Surfers Bible, from Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.

  • The CS El Salvador movie night and the growth that has occurred in the ministry in both El Salvador and Guatemala; leaders from Guatemala were present and have set up many outreaches since their trip to El Salvador.

  • Bridget Turner's return to Canada from her time in Australia.

Pray for:

  • The 'East Coast Camp Out' by CSUS October 7-10, in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

  • CS Mexico's Regional Camp Out in Salina Cruz the weekend of October 21-23.

  • CS Barbados as they serve at the WSL Juniors contest at Soup Bowls, November 10-13.

SOUTH AMERICA

Praise God for:

  • The successful visit to Peru by CSI Board member, Eric Arakawa, for the activities that were run with CS Peru - in particular the first ever CS fundraising dinner in South America, which set a great precedent for all of the region.

Pray for:

  • The CS Chile National Gathering in Puertecillo Beach (October 29 - November 1).

  • The 'Aloha Jesus 2016' surfing festival, to be held in San Bartolo, Peru, on November 12.

  • The right people to be found for the National Director positions in Argentina, Peru and Brazil; the National Boards are directing the missions in the meantime.

EUROPE

Praise God for:

  • CS Europe Leaders Gathering. Giving thanks for the recent Christian Surfers Europe leaders gathering held just North of Lisbon in Portugal. Around 40 leaders from eight European countries gathered together, along with the new international director Roy Harley and a few other visiting Christian Surfers international friends. It was a time of Fellowship, fun, inspiring stories and planning for the future, as well as fun waves and great food.

  • 24th Jesus Surf Classic. Over the weekend of September 10 and 11th, Croyde Bay in North Devon hosted the 24th Jesus Surf Classic. Probably our highest profile and largest event in the year. This year we saw nearly 150 entries and had to unfortunately turn others away. Good-quality waves, sunshine, lots of action on the skate ramps, made for very enjoyable and we believe God filled weekend. At the presentation Phil Williams shared about running the organisation for 20 years and what relationship with Jesus is all about. Huge thanks again to all the helpers as well.

  • CS France - Wells Family. Over the last few months we have been praying for the Wells family as they began to settle in France after moving there to assist with Christian Surfers work from the Isle of Wight. We were particularly wanting a breakthrough with regards to accommodation and work. Thanks to God for not only providing work and accommodation but also a new friend at school for Mabel as she just started school in September.

Pray for:

  • CS France. Praying for the ongoing partnership between Christian Surfers and Surf church in Hossegor, especially at this key time for the Quiksilver pro which will be taking place in the first week of October. Lots of really exciting outreach opportunities planned for which we continue to pray for Rich, and the wider team.

  • CS Spain. Pray for new missionary couple's Adam and Julie Stephens as they settle into life in the northern Spanish town of Gijon. They have moved there from Australia and are keen to begin to learn the language and understand the culture. Before becoming involved in the ministry.

  • CS Europe - Regional Co-ordinate - Phil Williams. September for Phil proved to be a very busy month with obviously the 24th Jesus Surf Classic and then trips to south-west France (looking for a venue for the 2018 international conference) and then running the CS Europe leaders gathering near Lisbon. October looks to be equally as busy with lots of events as well as catching up on administration and restarting fundraising campaigns for Christian surfers. Please continue pray for energy, finances, resources and the right team to serve at each of these key events. The campaign to fund raise to replace the ten-year old van continues, with over 180,000 miles travelled, so please continue to pray for sources of finance in order to bring this dream to reality.

Africa

Praise God for:

  • God's provision, power, and impact during CS South Africa's trip to serve in Namibia. Pray for continued impact and for God to raise up local surfers who have a heart to start a local CS mission.

  • Jos and Stephanie Huttinga's time serving Hope House and Salt Surfers in Mauritius.

Pray for:

  • CS South Africa Eastern Cape Camp on October 21-23 and CSALT Missions Phase in East London. Pray for God to raise up young leaders across the South African Coastline and to create opportunities to share the love of Jesus with more surfers.

  • Support, encouragement, and rest for the mission in North Africa.

  • God to raise up passionate, adventurous surfers with a heart and commitment to reach the African coastline.

CHAPLAINCY

Praise God for:

  • Ana Barend on deck at the Trestles event and able to minister to surfers on the announcement of Woody's tragic death. *Please pray for Woody's family and a way forward for the WSL following Woody's recent passing.

  • The synergy and communication within the chaplaincy team.

  • A good Chaplaincy 'game plan' going into the end of the 2016 surf season.

Pray for:

  • Our chaplains as they currently serve in Europe. Pray for encouragement for each of them, for insight and wisdom.

  • Upcoming World Tour events in Hawaii; for God's favour for the team of chaplains heading to the North Shore, especially in establishing and maintaining relationships with the surfers and officials.

  • Andrew, Gayle and Shannon supporting the Longboard Tour as Chaplains in Taiwan and China.

  • The Leschi family as Giulio's wife recovers from a broken hip.
