Short-Term Mission Opportunity
International Surfing Association World Surfing Games
Punta Rocas, Lima, Peru, October 24 - November 1, 2014

Every year the surfing's equivalent to the Olympic Games is held in the form of the ISA World Surfing Games. Each of the 86 ISA member nations is eligible to send a representative team with women, men, longboard, and bodyboard each represented.

From October 24 to November 1, 2014 Christian Surfers has a great opportunity to connect again with the world surfing community. As happened last year, the Peruvian Surfing Federation (FENTA) is the host of this year's ISA Games and CS Peru wants to act as a support partner for the whole event. In 2011, in Caballeros/Señoritas Beach, CS made a big impact on both the surfers as well as officials, and we want to repeat this.

This year, CS Peru want to invite the global Christian Surfers family to send one key representative if possible from each of the countries represented at the contest to come and serve with them as volunteers to the Peruvian Surfing Federation in helping host the games. As in previous years, Christian Surfers can offer hospitality, a servanthood role and pastoral support to the games.

The kind of help you would provide can vary from hosting a CS stand, helping officials setting up and tear down, beach and town clean-up, serving food and drinks, being available for pastoral care, possibly hosting a mid-week bible study, Sunday service to many other possibilities. Ideally, it would be great to have CS guys or girls from each of the major surfing languages present. However, it is really important to be able to communicate fluently in English. The vision is that any surfer could come to the CS stand and meet a CS representative from their country, that representative would get the newcomer's information and follow up after the games, connecting them to a local chapter in their own country.

We would like this to be a very selective and experienced team, made up of CS leaders and not just people looking to attend the ISA World Surfing Games. We would request that the national director approve the person along with a letter of recommendation.

We have included a budget of total costs, not including airfare, which each team member would be personally responsible for. It would be great that all team members must arrive before (or on) October 23, 2014.

COST PER PERSON

Each team member is responsible for finding and purchasing their own flight. Apart from that he/she will need (all prices in USD):

  • $200/400 ($20-$40/day, depending on accommodation chosen - includes 3 meals)
  • $50 Transport from/to airport
  • $150 Miscellaneous expenses and buffer for budget gaps
  • $400/$600 per person total (*Costs are approximate, but won't vary much)

 

ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

  1. Our own backpackers (USD $20/day)
  2. Another backpackers nearby (around USD $30/day
  3. Official ISA accommodation at their Headquarters (USD $40/day)

However, it is optional for participants to hire more comfortable accommodation if they are willing to pay more, taking in account that would need their own transport. This is optional, depending on the personal budget.

The team members' responsibilities will be over by November 1, 2014. However, all team members are welcome to stay longer in country/at our backpackers place, but as the budget presented is only for the 10 days of the event, each team member will be responsible for his/her individual pre/post ISA Games arrangements and stay.

Also, if you cannot make the trip but you feel called to donate to this outreach, here are some worthy things to sponsor:

  1. Chaplaincy: We want to offer spiritual support to the competitors and the whole ISA staff. One option is to to have Marquito Santos, South America Regional Chaplain but we would need to cover his airfare. Amount needed: USD $1500
  2. Christian Surfers On Site Tent: We want to offer Surfers Bibles, water, wax, Christian DVDs, snacks, massage, t-shirts for the volunteers, Bible studies and film screenings. Amount needed: USD $1500
  3. Special Gifts Activities: We would like to offer individual gifts for each competitor (Surfers Bibles, Christian DVDs, a signed card for everyone, etc.) and maybe offering a special dinner for the ISA Director and the top ISA staff, if their agenda let us to do so, in order to approximate CSI to them. Oportunidad de Trabajo Misionero de Corto Plazo

Cada año, el equivalente a los Juegos Olímpicos se produce a través de los Juegos Mundiales de la ISA. Cada una de las 85 naciones integrantes puede enviar un equipo representativo para varones, damas, long board y body board.

Desde el 24 de octubre hasta el 1ro de noviembre de 2014, Christian Surfers tiene la gran oportunidad de conectarnos nuevamente con la comunidad de surf mundial. Tal como ocurrió en 2010, la Federación Peruana de Surf (FENTA) es quien va a organizar los Juegos de la ISA y CS Perú desea apoyar en el evento. En 2010, en la playa Caballeros/Señoritas, CSI realizó un gran impacto tanto e los atletas como en el staff de jueces y oficiales de la ISA y queremos repetirlo.

Este año, CS Perú desea invitar a la familia mundial de CS a que envíen si es posible a algún representante clave de cada nación representada en el evento, para que sirvan en el evento como voluntarios al servicio de la FENTA, ayudándolos a desarrollar el campeonato. Como en otras oportunidades, CSI puede ofrecerles hospitalidad, servicio y apoyo pastoral para esta ocasión.

El tipo de ayuda que se puede brindar varía desde estar en el toldo de CS, ayudar a los jueces, ayudar en llevar cosas, limpieza de playas y del lugar, servir comida, frutas y bebidas, estar disponible para brindar cuidado espiritual a quien lo solicite, posibilidad de realizar un estudio bíblico entre semana o llevar a alguien a la iglesia el domingo hasta cualquier otra posibilidad. Idealmente, sería bueno tener hmbres y mujeres que hablen los idiomas más comunes, sin embargo, tener fluidez en el inglés es importante. La visión es que cada surfista pueda tener la opción de conocer a un representante de CS de su propio país, quien podría hacerle un seguimiento posterior a la competencia, conectándolo con el grupo local de CS.

Quisiéramos mantener esta oportunidad reservada para un equipo selecto y experimentado, constituido por líderes de CS y no por gente que esté simplemente asistir a los Juegos ISA. Se pedirá una recomendación del Director Nacional de la misión de CS de su país.

Hemos incluido un presupuesto de los costos (no incluye pasaje aéreo, del que cada miembro del equipo será responsable de conseguir). Sería genial que los miembros del equipo lleguen el 23 de octubre (o antes), pero podemos ver casos especiales.

Cada uno debe buscar su propio pasaje aéreo. Otros costos individuales son (todos los precios en dólares americanos):

De todas formas, es opcional para los participantes que busquen un lugar más confortable por más dinero, tomando en cuenta que probablemente necesiten considerar una movilidad propia. Esto depende del presupuesto de cada quien.

Las responsabilidades del los miembros del equipo terminarán el 1ro de noviembre de 2014. Sin embargo, todos pueden quedarse por más tiempo en el país o en nuestro hospedaje de backpackers. De todos modos, se debe tomar en cuenta que el presupuesto presentado es para los 10 días del evento, por lo que cada persona se hará responsable de su estadía anterior o posterior a los juegos de la ISA.

DONACIONES PARA EL EVANGELISMO

Si no puedes asistir, pero te sientes llamado a apoyar económicamente para esta causa, aquí hay algunas oportunidades para hacerlo:

  1. Capellanía: Quisiéramos ofrecer apoyo spiritual para los competidores y todo el staff de la ISA. Estamos interesados en contar con Marquito Dos Santos, Capellán Regional, pero tendríamos que cubrir los costos de su viaje. Amount needed: USD $1500
  2. Toldo de CS en el lugar: Queremos ofrecer cosas como Biblias del Surfista, agua, cera, DVDs cristianos, snacks, masajes, camisetas para los voluntarios, gastos imprevistos para los miembros del equipo, posibilidades de proyectar una película, etc. Amount needed: USD $1500
  3. Regalos especiales/actividades: También quisiéramos ofrecer un presente individual para cada competidor (Biblias del Surfista, DVDs, una tarjeta especial, etc.) y quizás ofrecer una cena al Director de la ISA y el Staff más elevado, dependiendo de su agenda, para aproximarnos a la ISA. Amount needed: USD $1500
