The Cooper Family
We are the Cooper Family
Lance and Rachel live with their 3 boys, Fletcher, Lennox and Ziggy, in Hobart, Tasmania. Lance works as a school youth worker and Rach is a nurse. They have both extensively committed to serving in the local church and love their connections within their small beachside community.
Our Purpose
With an increasing number of surfers, along with their friends and families, visiting Indonesia each year, there is a significant opportunity to share the love of Christ. Yet our vision extends beyond tourism. Our heart is to also see indigenous Indonesian surfers and coastal communities reached with the gospel, equipped in their faith, and empowered to lead others to Christ. From Bali to the outer islands, we long to see thriving local ministries that connect both Indonesian and visiting surfers with the hope of Jesus, creating a lasting impact for generations to come.
Our Journey with Christian Surfers
In 2020, we became part of our local Christian Surfers family through a shared love for Indonesia, a heart to serve, and a willingness to simply jump in and be part of the stoke. Lance has coordinated Surf Jam, a surf and mentoring program investing into young people through surfing, discipleship, and connection. Rach has been actively involved with Salt Sisters, an all-female surf community encouraging women, building friendships, and creating positive local impact.
At the beginning of 2024, we were deeply humbled to step into the role of Regional Coordinators for Indonesia. What started out as a love the people of Indonesia over 20 years ago, has now become a calling we hold incredibly close to our hearts.
We truly believe God is moving throughout this region, and we feel privileged to play our part in what He is already doing.
Looking Ahead
In alignment with the global Christian Surfers vision, we are committed to seeing thriving teams and connections flourishing across the Indonesian archipelago by 2030. Our desire is not only to support surfing communities spiritually, but to practically serve and strengthen local communities in ways that create lasting impact.
Through our newly established not-for-profit, Palms and Salt, we also hope to grow sustainable community initiatives like, Surf first aid training, Water safety education, Environmental action projects, Leadership development and Community support initiatives.

Current Fundraising Needs
As we prepare for three months of ministry in Indonesia from July, we are seeking to raise $8,000 to support this mission. This trip will require regular travel between islands by plane, boat, and long road journeys. As a family of five on mission, the cost of traveling from Australia and throughout Indonesia is significant, yet it remains an essential part of investing in people, supporting local teams, and building lasting relationships.
If you feel led to partner with us, we would love to invite you to join us on this journey. Every partnership in prayer and financial giving helps play a part in seeing lives impacted, communities strengthened, and hearts transformed by the hope of Christ.
Thank you so much for your support, encouragement, and belief in this mission.
