How is your Soul?

What is your heart really seeking?

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33

Surfers know what it means to search.

We search for swell, offshore winds, uncrowded line-ups and that perfect wave. We willingly invest our time and energy chasing something we love. Yet beneath every search lies a deeper question - one Jesus asks each of us:

What is your heart really seeking?

Perhaps an even better question is one I've heard asked over the years:

How is your soul?

Not, "How's work?" or "How's the surf?" or even, "How's ministry?" But how is the deepest part of you, the part that lives before God?

It is good to be reminded often that we are being formed by whatever we give our attention to. Every day our hearts are being shaped by something: success, approval, comfort, ambition, entertainment, or the endless noise of our world. None of these things are evil in themselves, but when they quietly become first, they slowly become our master.

Jesus offers another way.

"Seek first the kingdom of God."

This isn't another religious task to squeeze into an already busy life. It's an invitation to reorder our loves, to become apprentices of Jesus, allowing His presence to shape every part of who we are. When Christ is first, everything else finds its proper place.

John Lennox, a well known professor and Christian, writes with clarity about a world searching for meaning while often leaving God out of the equation. Yet the deepest longing of every human soul is not ultimately answered by achievement, possessions, or even the next great experience. We were created for relationship with the One who created us.

Many of the challenges we face are not primarily work issues, life, school, leadership or family issues. Often they are soul issues. A neglected soul eventually affects everything else.

So before checking the surf report, answering another whats app message or email, or planning your next adventure, stop for a moment.

Ask yourself:

What am I seeking first? How is my soul?

Then bring your honest answers to Jesus.

Because the deepest search of your heart reveals who you are following.

And when you seek His Kingdom first, your soul discovers the peace, purpose, and life it was always created to find.
