Meet James Le Roux
Hey, Im James & I live in Jefferys’s Bay, South Africa…..
I can usually be found either behind the lens of my camera, in the editing bay, working on websites or in the water chasing down a point break or a left hand slab ;)
Im someone who loves, sharing the Gospel, travel, filming, surfing and am really passionate about specifically sharing the Gospel through the medium of media and creating equipping resources so that more surfers and surf communities may have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.
Im currently living in Jbay, South Africa about to get married to my beautiful fiancé Janneke, serving as the media and communications manager for Christian Surfers South Africa 3 days a week, where my main focus is to create, share and tell stories that equips surfers as well as reaches surfers and surfing communities with the Gospel of Jesus. Im also currently serving along side the International team with Roy, Casey and Mel as the IT/Web Manager as well as helping with media support where my main focus is on setting up, managing the tech space, managing the websites CSI, Groundswell Aid and Surfers Bible as well as editing content for socials and the Christian Surfers Podcast along with many other media projects.
IT/Web Management & Media Support
My main role with Christian Surfers International is IT/Web Management, what I do in this space is maintain and update CSI’s websites (CSI/Surfers Bible/Groundswell Aid) to ensure that there is consistency as well as up to date content while making sure the infrastructure of all the platforms and tech within Christian Surfers International is operating smoothly and secure. Part of this role is to explore new tech and ways to expand Christian Surfers reach and impact within this space. I also manage and am responsible for smooth system integrations within fundraising and various tech platforms to make sure that all platforms operate smoothly and are up to date.
Within the media support space a big part of my role is to edit the CS podcasts and where needed film them, working with the team to produce regular podcasts that tell the stories of Surfers who love Jesus, I also work with the communications manager to improve the platforms, resources we have such as YouTube and YouVersion. I help across the board with the post production of videos to get out relevant content and feedback for fundraising events such as the global surfathon.
My History With Christian Surfers
I had my first interaction with Christian Surfers in South Africa when I was about 13 years old, about 16 years ago. I went with a mentor from my Church, EdgeChurch in Edgemead, Merwyn who took me up to work and serve by working in and around Roy Harley’s house while he was the National Director for CS SA, in Jbay. It was an epic time getting to meet so many different people. I then went on with life and school and only later on did I re-connect with some of the crew from Christian Surfers SA, in particularly Stuart, Merwyn’s son who was part of the same church I was in who took me to a spot in Sea Point called rocklands where I began my journey. I was still in school at this time and Stu would always fetch me for surfs at rocklands and as life went on I slowly turned away from faith and began to live in the world.
After high school I got involved with the wrong crowd leading me into a life far from God. All through this time Stu would fetch me for surfs and always share the Gospel with me, while inviting me to CS and love me regardless of my life choices. It wasn’t till later when I decided I needed to come back to faith and change my life and this is where Stu invited me to Christian Surfers meet up again where CS Cape Town was doing an outreach in teaching kids how to surf while sharing the Gospel with them, this was pre-covid.
I then fell in love with CS again and in coming back to faith I knew God had something more for me within Christian Surfers. Shortly after this I go retrenched and this then led me to a space to start my own business in media production where I could use my gifts and talents God had given me to glorify Him, it wasn’t shortly after this that Covid hit and I was locked in my house, no job, no business and couldn’t go anywhere. I then began to seek and ask God what He wanted me to do and shortly after we were aloud out of our houses God spoke clearly and asked me to create videos sharing His Gospel within CS Cape Town and using the social media with in CS CT to share the Gospel, it wasn’t too long after this I felt I needed to go and serve the national mission, in Jbay, South Africa in this area of video and web support. There I went, 1 tank of petrol and no job, no money, just a full tank of petrol on my way up to Jbay to serve the national mission in media and tech support.
Shortly after my time in Jbay I felt I needed to ask Jason, the national director what it would look like to come work for the national mission In SA in this area, upon phoning him he shared that God had laid it on his heart to open and create a position like this for me and Oh My Word did I not even know what to say.
This then started the journey of coming on board full-time with CS South Africa 3 years ago where I am still currently serving as the media and communications manger. During my time with CS SA I was approached by the International team to help with website support and as I continued with this, the role grew into what it is today, where Im serving 2 days a week in this area along with helping with media.
Whats the Future
Firstly for 2026 I’lll be getting married 😁😁😁
For 2026 I will remain 3 days a week with Christian Surfers South Africa and 2 days a week with Christian Surfers International, while I fundraise for my 2 day a week role but also my full-time dream role so the dream and goal for the future is to move into a more full-time role with Christian Surfers International where I will be focused more within the media space getting to create, share, equip and share the Gospel through the medium of media on a global scale, working with a team to produce content and working towards telling more and more surfers about Jesus, so that they may have the opportunity to know and follow Him.
Prayer Support
I trust and know that God is faithful and will provide all I need and far beyond, but before I can do anything He has asked of me prayer is the most important thing. I would greatly appreciate if you would join my prayer team firstly should you wish to join and partner with me in prayer please pop me a whatsapp on +27 833445665 or email/iMessage me on lerouxjames9@gmail.com and then I can keep you update with my regular prayer needs as I walk in what God has called me to.
Financial Support
Im needing to raise funds so that I can continue in doing what He has asked of me, Christian Surfers has agreed to generously match the funds for the first year that are raised. I have a goal of R7500 (about $500) monthly to raise for my 2 day a week role. I would greatly appreciate if you would prayerfully consider partnering with me in this area, be it with a generous one time gift or monthly partnership in the ongoing work God has called me to.
Bellow is a form where you are able to donate and parter with me in what God is doing and has called me to.
