Phil Williams
For those who don’t know me, I have been involved with Christian Surfers for around three decades as the founder of Christian Surfers UK and regional coordinator for Europe and facilitating things in the Middle East and Africa space as well.
I have been married to Annie for 38 years (an absolute saint) with two grown-up children Abi (31) and Joe (28)
There are however were very big changes for myself and my wife Annie in the summer 2025, as on 1 August 2025 I transitioned away from my role as national director of Christian Surfers UK after a mere 32 years, in order to hand over the baton to a fantastic new leader Ben, and moved into a different role with Christian Surfers International.
I am currently, and have been for the last 24 years living by faith which as you can imagine is always a challenging place to be, but one that always keeps me close to God and prayers, through the challenging times, as well as rejoicing through the amazing times of God’s generosity.
Looking to the future I am continuing to look after Christian Surfers throughout Europe, with the growing team and in fact focusing more of my time in Europe compared to currently, due to the amount of time I can potentially dedicate to it, providing I can raise the funds required.
Roy and I are also working on a very exciting new project which is to be the CSI lead in two key areas of potential growth globally across CS…Para Surfing & Inland surfing initiatives.
Para Surfing
One of which is our involvement in the para surfing space, this is a real passion of mine and for the last seven years I have been heavily involved in para or adaptive surfing and for the last four years I have been volunteer team manager for the English team. This is a fantastic opportunity to serve a community that is always looking for help and I would love to see even more countries involved than are currently involved. We have a good team of Christian surfers throughout the world who are either athletes or involved in leadership of these communities but I believe we can do so so much more, and I hope to be able to guide people into areas where they can get involved, and support them in this work.
I also believe we can assist in mental health projects, working in the surfing communities, as there are some great examples of how surfing can really benefit individuals going through tough times.
Inland Surfing Initiatives (Wave Pools and River surfing)
The other key area which I am passionate about is to be heavily involved in encouraging CSI throughout the world in getting involved in outreach to inland wave communities, namely artificial waves as well as river waves. Whether we like it or not the number of these parks and opportunities to serve inland is only going to increase, I personally think it’s an amazing opportunity. I have surfed in rivers in Canada, Germany, Switzerland and the UK and likewise wave parks in Germany Switzerland and the UK. These are amazing opportunities for serving in, and getting to know that community, as they are dedicated into a small space and therefore building relationships is so much easier than at the coast.
How much time I have to input into this will again be dependent on how much I can raise
How can you support me?
There are three key ways that you can support my work.
First of which is to become a PRAYER SUPPORTER and be willing to pray into the needs and opportunities that these numerous roles provide, we all know that prayer opens doors, and so if you don’t already receive it I would love to add you to our update prayer newsletter which comes out approx. 6 times each year.
You could also support through getting involved in a practical way by HELPING OUT and getting involved in initiatives in your local country through either the ministry which has already been set up, or if you have a passion to get involved in inland waves or para surf community.
The final way and is equally as important is to SUPPORT MYSELF FINANCIALLY, every pound, dollar or euro does make a big difference and don’t worry about if you can only give five or $10 a month because that multiplied by a number of other people will make a big difference. By 1st March 2026 I am needing to raise £6000 to be able to launch my new season focusing on Para Surfing opportunities & Inland Surf Initiatives, and kick start the strategy to CSI worldwide as well as continuing to serve the CS Crews across Europe. Details of how you can make these payments easily are highlighted further down below on this page
If there are further questions you have about any of these please don’t hesitate to contact me phil@christiansurfers.net
A New Season
Throughout this transition period, and since Roy shared the vision for 2030, I have been struck by this key verse which I believe is relevant for not just myself, but also the wider CS community
Isaiah 54 v 2
“Enlarge the place of your tent and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes”.
In my role I believe with Gods help, we can go into new areas, stretch out the curtains of our tents, and create strong stakes of faith in those areas.
The first time I stepped out in faith to go full-time living by faith for Christian Surfers 24 years ago was a huge step, the journey has been incredible, full of highlights and some more challenging times, and fast forwarding to the current time (December 2025) I also see this is a huge step of faith.
Handing over the role as National Director at Christian Surfers UK, after being the founder leader, I knew was going to be at time challenging, but I am really excited to be stepping out in faith again with the support of yourselves, and continue to work in the surfing communities which I have so loved serving.
I give thanks for anyone of you that has played a role in this journey so far I could not do it without you, I have been amazed at the way God has changed lives and broken down preconceived ideas about what faith is enabling long-term friendships to continue to develop and thrive.
God bless
Phil Williams
