This week’s Living Water from @christiansurfers_us ・・・ LIVING WATER by JW Kaiser Surfing has to be the closest thing to actually walking on water. ⠀⠀ One of my favorite books is titled "If You Want To Walk On Water You Have To Get Out Of The Boat" (by John Ortberg.) The book title is in reference to Peter’s miraculous walk on water. ⠀⠀ It is obvious but true that nothing truly miraculous happens in the boat. We have to get out... out of our comfort zones; out of our routines; out of our own abilities; out of our fears; out of ourselves... if that is possible. Even if we get out of our metaphorical boats, then it is usually the case that it’s not our abilities that God will use in miraculous ways. It is our prayers. Praying people get out of the boat. ⠀⠀ Peter stepped out of the boat. Peter took a step. Peter started to sink. Then the miraculous happened. Peter realized that out of the boat is when God takes over. Peter prayed the faster prayer ever as he sank under the surface of the waves. As a surfer you may have prayed a similar prayer under the weight of a heavy wave that has tossed you around like a rag doll. It’s a simple but power prayer. Peter prayed, “Lord save me!” ⠀⠀ Jesus indeed saved him and Peter indeed walked on water. What if we got out the boats of our ordinary lives and prayed extra-ordinary prayers? Even more, what if we turned the focus of those prayers towards those around us? Get out of the boat and pray boldly for yourself “Lord save me.” And while walking on water, pray for others “Lord save them!” ⠀⠀ “If we truly love people, we will desire for them far more than it is within our power to give them, and this will lead us to prayer. Intercession is a way of loving others. In the ongoing work of the kingdom of God, nothing is more important than intercessory prayer. People today desperately need the help that we can give them. Marriages are being shattered. Children are being destroyed. Individuals are living lives of quiet desperation, without purpose or future. And we can make a difference... if we will learn to pray on their behalf.” -Richard Foster

Many of these people believe in God but they are not enjoying a deep relationship with Jesus. Our prayer for CSCR is that our Heavenly Father keeps guiding our ministry, opening new doors in the surfing community so that more surfers have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus. Pray for more workers with a Christ-centered life, committed to serve through the CSCR ministry and for guidance on the best places to share the good news!”

This week’s Living Water from @christiansurfers_us ・・・ LIVING WATER Get Out Of The Boat (Part I) by @jwkaiser Recently on a Christian Surfers “Surf Missions” trip to Nicaragua, we had the privilege of staying with @surfsanctuary. One of the best parts of staying there is the opportunity to be guided to the best surf by truck or by boat. You never have to guess where the best surf spot is each day. With work, school, relationships and all the other big decisions we have to make in life, wouldn’t it be great to have a guide or helper? In John 14:26 Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as our “Helper.” “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” It’s fantastic news that we have a Helper in the Holy Spirit to be our guide. However, we still will find ourselves at a fork in the road daily. Many us have been fooled into thinking there are only two paths in front of us to choose from. One path is “God’s will” and the other, an ungodly path that would perhaps disappoint Our Lord. The Holy Spirit, as our guide, will be with us down any path we choose helping to affirm our good decisions and redeem our bad ones. There is a third option. When our guide in Nicaragua delivered us to the surf spot we could have paddled into the lineup (as the guide suggested) or head off in the wrong direction like we tend to do daily. Sadly many of us, afraid to make a bad decision and unable or unwilling to trust the Holy Spirit to lead us to good places in our lives, simply stay in the boat. Just so we are clear, this is the worst option. The Holy Spirit can be trusted even when we drift in the wrong direction. As believers the One we have turned our lives over to can be trusted to save us and redirect us every moment of every day if we trust and listen to His guidance. But in the boat we miss out on the adventure that awaits. So get out out of the boat. Jump In. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you as He is our ultimate “Helper.”
This week’s Living Water from @christiansurfers_us ・・・ Dinged by Jacob Galura Have you ever had one of those magic boards where no matter how many times it gets dinged, you always get it fixed? One of my friends has a board that has more ding repairs on it than he has hair on his head. Every time I see that board I ask "why don't you just get a new one already?" One of the main reasons he can't bring himself to part with it is all of the years of surf travel and memories made on that board. He's taken it on every surf trip he's been on for the last 15 years. I see my life represented by that board, we spend our days working, playing, laughing or crying and every day we make memories, some good others not so good. Those rough bits are like dings in your favorite board; even after they are repaired you still see them. With surfboards you can see the life of the person riding it through the dings, stories of getting washed over a reef or missing a keyhole. Life is the same way, God heals our brokenness but the scars still remain, we all have them even if they don't look the same. The beautiful thing about our scars is we can use them to tell a story of how God brought us from where we were to now, how He walked through the rough times with us and helped us heal and move on. Every time I hear my friend tell a story from traveling there is usually a ding on his board somehow related to it and I keep thinking, just get a new board already. That thing can't have much left to give, but every time I tell him he just smiles back and says it's still his magic board. I've begun to realize that the value I put on his board differs completely from his. He values the memories and the journey more than what the board can do for him now. Are we doing the same things with ourselves? Do we value our own scars? We have such an amazing Father that we can use those dings to tell a story that can resonate with other people. Some of us carry more dings than others, but in no way does that lessen our value in God's eyes. Just like my friend that wouldn't trade that beat up board for anything in the world, check where you are putting your value, you might be surprised at what you see
