Along with being the founder of Aleph Surf, Reghert is also the Christian Surfers Regional Coordinator for Africa and the Middle East.

“Our trip to Israel was for several reasons,” explains Rehgert. “Part of what we want to do with Christian Surfers is take people on tours of Israel. People who are involved in the surf community and who are interested in Israel.” As followers of Christ, Israel holds a special place in our hearts. All but one contributor to the canon of scriptures which make up The Holy Bible are Jewish. Thus understanding Jewish culture plays a pivotal role in coming to grips with Christianity. “So in many ways our trip to Israel was a scouting mission. We went to find cool places to take people to, suitable accommodation and just do some general research. We also met with an Australian couple living in Israel who have been actively reaching out to the surf community. They live in the Haifa area near a beach town called Bat Galim, which happens to lay host to one of the best waves in Israel; a righthand slabby reef break that gets very good. We spent time praying with them, encouraging them and we shared a shabbat meal together. Two of the local Christian surfers came to dinner as well.” Rehgert and the crew ended up praying on the beach at Bat Galim for God to honour their prayers with one more surfer to come to Jesus. “A week later, Yoav a local surfer and Messianic Jew mentioned that he met an Israeli surf coach who lives on a Kibbutz who pronounced faith in Jesus Christ.”

“We are praying that God will connect increasing numbers of surfers who are followers of Christ together. There are only about 3000 believers in Israel out of a total population of around six million and thus unity amongst Christian surfers is important.”

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.”’ - Matthew 9:35-38
